Annual investment in the reconstruction, modernization and maintenance of production facilities reaches one and a half billion roubles, which allows to:

• Increase the efficiency of production facilities by reducing the cost per unit of output
• Improve product quality
• Decrease power consumption and increase energy efficiency
• Mitigate the environmental impact of the operations

In 2006, a unique Coke-Oven Battery No. 5 complex was launched, unparalleled in Russia in terms of technical and economic parameters. The technical solutions adopted at the complex allow high product quality and enable a high degree of mechanization and automation of coke production processes. The annual design capacity of Coke-Oven Battery No. 5 complex is 1,140 tonnes of bulk coke with 6% moisture content.

In 2008, a tar deslurrying plant was put into operation that allows to produce a high quality product at the same time dealing with chemical waste disposal, which contributes to the reduction of labour costs for cleaning tar repositories. The cost of the project implemented as part of Stage II of NLMK Technical Upgrade Programme exceeds 57 million roubles.

In 2012 an additional scrubber was installed in the benzene area to recover benzene carbohydrates from coke gas.

In 2012, a pitch granulation plant was put into operation allowing to expand pitch sales markets, while reducing the costs of its transportation and storage. Granulated pitch is also required to improve coke quality.
