International Chemical and Coke Standards
Altai-koks is getting ready for ISO 9001:2000 quality management certification at the end of 2006. New QMS development and implementation department appeared in the company structure in September, and currently the program for ISO QMS certification implementation at Altai-koks has been already approved.
Quality management system for the company is in its intensive development phase. Quality Council has been formed to discuss the most important issues, and some training workshops on QMS have been already carried out. Galina Kronevald was appointed QMS implementation manager and supervisor for Altai-koks, Irina Prokhodko was appointed QMS department manager.
What is the quality management certificate required for?
– The company is foreign market-oriented, and in the most countries of the world product certification is already under governmental control in accordance with the international standards. We can make products of the highest quality, but foreign partners will always be interested to know whether we have international standard certificate or not. The certificate we are going to obtain – ISO 9001:2000 – specifies requirements for enterprise management systems (i.e. for quality management) rather than to product quality directly. The system in its turn provides predictable and stable level of product quality. It is a customer-oriented management system, which allows us to meet customers' expectations and provides sustainable income for company. ISO international standards
accumulates international experience by the most successful companies.
What will the certification process look like, what is required for this?
– The company plans to finish the certification process by the end of the next year. Based on the experience within our region no company succeeded to getting the certificate earlier than in 1.5 to 2 years from the start of work. We, however, are preparing the required documents as quickly as possible and have already conducted some training workshops on use of QMS. Currently the quality management system for the company is in its intensive development phase. Upon QMS implementation we are going to carry out an internal audit and only after that will we invite the certifying authority.
What company will issue the certificate?
– The manufacturer cannot voluntary choose the certifying authority, as primary preference is given to customers' needs. We should take the consumer's interests into account as much as possible, study customers' preferences and based on this knowledge choose the certifying authority.
