The main focuses of scientific and educational development pursued within NLMK Group’s social policy consist of multifaceted support for certain educational institutions in the regions where the Company operates, and support for high-quality technical education for young people.
The Company provides targeted funding for scientific and educational activities at educational institutions, and also arranges and sponsors conferences dedicated to scientific research as well as scientific and technical competitions for students.
In order to introduce the next generation of employees to the company, NLMK organizes open days and tours around production facilities for schoolchildren as well as industrial internships at the company’s enterprises for students from certain educational institutions.
NLMK also finances a range of scholarship grants. The Company allocates significant resources to improving facilities at nursery schools, primary and secondary schools, vocational institutions, children’s centres for the creative arts, children’s homes, and residential schools.
Schools
The company has implemented the following career guidance programmes for school students of Zarinsk and Zarinsk Region to facilitate their career orientation, strengthen their knowledge, develop their skills, and prepare them for admission to universities and colleges:
- Elective courses in physics and chemistry (extracurricular on-line classes for grades 9-11),
- Physics and chemistry school competitions for grades 9-11 (together with Altai State University and Kuzbass State Technical University),
- Technology lessons for grades 8-9 (theoretical and practical sessions held at the Zarinsk Polytechnic College),
- The Children Corporation (a career guidance project for children aged 13-16 who are orphans and the children of Altai-Koks employees),

- Steelmaking Shift for children aged 7-12 (career guidance activity days at the Bodrost Children’s Camp).
Students
Every year Altai-Koks hosts around 150 students from various educational institutions as interns.
The company traditionally runs programmes to train personnel for the coking industry in partnership with the leading industry-specific educational institutions of Altai Krai and Kuzbass.
Zarinsky Polytechnic College
Acts as the basic educational institution for Altai-Koks. Each year, more than 100 college students undertake internships within the site’s departments working closely with experienced mentors. Altai-Koks offers paid internships to students eager to develop their practical skills and professional expertise. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn an extra qualification during their practical training at the company.
The site features dedicated training facilities where students gain hands-on experience, participate in professional skills competitions, and complete qualification exams for trades such as Instrumentation and Automation Fitter or Electrician.
Annually, first-year college students visit the site for guided tours, including visits to workstations aligned with their chosen fields of study.
In 2024, Altai-Koks signed targeted contracts with 10 college students, providing them with monthly scholarships.
This approach to collaborating with educational institutions enables students to adapt smoothly to industrial work environments while continuing their studies and secures guaranteed employment upon graduation. At the same time, Altai-Koks fulfils its workforce demand by recruiting employees who combine solid theoretical knowledge with valuable practical experience.
